Audrey Lopez Martinez

Audrey was the loving mother of Roxane Babin Foto (the late Daniel) and Angela Martinez Grant (Dennis), and the proud grandmother of Alexandra Foto, Amelia Dubuisson (Chris), Bryson Foto (Lauren), and Isabelle Grant. She was the great-grandmother of Peyton Foto, Caroline Foto, and Alayna Foto. She was preceded in death by her brother, Candido Lopez Jr., and sisters, Barbara Acosta and Anna Breaux, and by her parents, Candido Lopez and Lilly Sylvera Raiborn. She is survived by many cousins, relatives, and dear friends who were an important part of her life.

Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, Audrey lived in the New Orleans area for much of her life before moving to Ponchatoula, Louisiana in 2010 to be close to her daughter Roxane and her children. Earlier this year, she moved to Annandale, Virginia, to live with her daughter Angela and her family when she was no longer able to care for herself independently.

Family was an important part of Audrey's life. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children and treasured the years when she cared for her grandchildren while they were growing up. She took great pride in being part of their lives and enjoyed watching them grow into adults. She also spoke fondly of her great-grandchildren and enjoyed hearing about their lives and milestones.

Audrey expressed her love in many ways, especially through cooking. She was a wonderful cook and took great pride in preparing meals for her family. Thanksgiving and Christmas were particularly special to her, bringing together the people she loved, the traditions she cherished, and the food she so enjoyed preparing. For Audrey, cooking was more than preparing a meal. It was one of the ways she showed her family how much she cared.

She also enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. After retiring, she cherished going to lunch with her husband and going to the Cinema Arts movie theater on senior nights. At home, she loved watching movies, doing word searches, and relaxing with some of her favorite television programs, especially The Golden Girls and Judge Judy. Some of her happiest moments were simply spent enjoying time with family.

Audrey was also a dedicated and hardworking woman. She served as a Commodity Manager for the United States Army National Guard for 37 years before retiring. Her long career reflected her dedication, perseverance, and strong work ethic. She also formed friendships that lasted a lifetime. She was blessed with four lifelong friends, with friendships that began in grade school, high school, and during her career. These enduring relationships were a special and meaningful part of her life.

Audrey's greatest legacy is the family she loved and the memories she created with them. Those memories will continue to live on in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family, and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, Louisiana, on Thursday, October 1, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by a Funeral Mass beginning at 1:00 p.m. She will be laid to eternal rest at St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
