

Averil Escaig Artigues passed away on Friday, October 24, 2025 at the age of 91. Averil was preceded in death by her parents Annabel LaBauve Escaig & Herbert Escaig Sr.; her brother Herbert Escaig Jr; her daughters Andrea Arnold & Sherrill Artigues; her son Christopher Artigues Sr.; and her grandchildren Jason Lejeune & Sean Artigues Jr.; her husband George Artigues Jr & Beloved friend Walter Licciardi. She was the loving mother of George Artigues III, LynNell Mumphrey (Frank), Sean Artigues (Misty) and step mother to Lisa Licciardi. Proud grandmother of Ron Lejuene Jr., Emily Artigues, Anani Artigues, Blisse Artigues, Braylin Artigues (Joseph), Briahn Artigues, Chris Artigues Jr., Dana Mumphrey, Chelsea Mumphrey (Brett), Nicole Mumphrey, George Artigues IV, Ashley Tuttle (Lucas), Kelly Artigues, Crystal Alonzo, Richard Cox, Chloe Cox and Candace Cox. Great grandmother of Brian Lejuene, Ronnie Lejeune III, Cooper Lejuene, Drake Lejeune, Lyrik Rodriguez, Sherrill Bullock, Malcolm Searcy, Bowen Thibodeaux, Bria Thibodeaux, Natalie Breaux, Livia Diaz, Lyra Diaz, Scarlett Tuttle, and Jaidyn Warlick. Sister of Carol Fradella. She is also survived and fondly remembered by many relatives, cousins and dear friends.
Averil was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, and was a proud longtime resident of St. Bernard Parish. She enjoyed a fulfilling 27-year career with BellSouth, where she retired as a talented graphic designer. She truly enjoyed life’s simple pleasures - singing, dancing, drawing, sharing conversations with friends and enjoying peaceful time in her garden bird watching. She found beauty in the everyday and gave her heart freely to those around her. She will always be remembered for her loyalty and devotion to her family, her kind and loving spirit, her beautiful laughter and the joy she found in spoiling her grandchildren. Averil’s warmth and compassion touched everyone who knew her, and she will be deeply missed by us all.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Friday, November 7th from 9:00AM – 11:00AM, followed by a funeral service in Averil’s memory beginning at 11:00AM. She will be laid to rest in a private ceremony.
