Bonalyn Levis Burkert

Bonalyn Levis Burkert, age 94, died peacefully on Friday, December 4, 2020. Bonnie was the oldest child of Walter J. and Thelma Roy Levis and was born in New Orleans on January 4, 1926. She was raised in Arabi, and after Katrina, she relocated to Lafayette. She was married to Norman J. Burkert on October 21, 1950. They had two daughters. Bonnie enjoyed sewing, gardening, playing cards, and dancing.

Bonnie is survived by daughters Beverly B. McMinn and Cheryl B. (Michael Sr.) Perry. She has 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren: Michael and Margie McMinn and Gwenneth; Nicholas and Ashley Guidroz and Ethan, Benjamin, Katherine, William, and Andrew; T.J. and Anna McMinn and James; Seth and Kathryn McMinn and Olivia and Matthew; Blake and Brook McMinn and Blakely; Michael Jr. and Nikki Perry; and Chad Perry.

Bonnie is also survived by her sister Lynne L. Hart (Edwin) of Las Vegas, NV, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Bonnie is predeceased by her husband Norman J. Burkert; her parents Walter J. and Thelma Roy Levis; her siblings Kathleen L. Cazaubon, Walter J. Levis Jr., Betty L. Ansardi, and Ronald J. Levis; and nieces Paula C. Levis and Kathy C. Dauterive.

The family would like to thank the entire staff of Avanti Senior Living and Grace Hospice for the loving care they provided to Bonnie. We greatly appreciate that she received the best care possible.

A visitation will be held on Friday, December 11, 2020, at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. VIRTUE STREET, in Chalmette, from 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM. A funeral service will be held in Bonnie’s memory at 1:30 PM.
