Bradley David Gowland, Sr., age 70, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, January 19, 2019. Dedicated husband of 50 years to Gail Parker Gowland. Loving father of Bradley David Gowland, Jr. and Loren Gowland Riles. He was the proud grandfather to Cameron Riles and Cullen Riles.
Brad was born on September 21, 1948 to the late Maurice Morales “Mickey” Gowland, Sr. and Joyce Rodriguez Gowland. He is survived by his brothers, Maurice Morales “Mickey” Gowland, Jr. (Debra), Bryan Michael Gowland (the late Pat), and a host of nieces and nephews.
He graduated from Chalmette High School in 1966 and Southeastern Louisiana University in 1972. He worked for the St. Bernard Parish Sherriff’s Office and the SBPSB at the juvenile detention center, where he retired in 2015, after 30 years.
He loved to fish in the many bayous in St. Bernard, but his passion was being around his family, and cooking. He took great pride and found much reward in being a positive influence on the young adults in JDC in St. Bernard.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial gathering at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue Street, in Chalmette, on Saturday, January 26, 2019, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A memorial service will be held in Brad’s honor at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the St. Bernard Battered Women’s Shelter, in memory of Brad.
