

Carol Adrianne Jeanfreau Stokes, age 81, of Chalmette, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 16, 2025, surrounded by family. Born and raised in New Orleans, Carol was a beloved mother, mentor, and dog lover.
Carol dedicated more than forty years to education, literacy, and community service. For thirty years, she worked as a librarian and teacher at G.W. Carver Sr. High School, where she nurtured a love of learning and supported generations of students. She later served many as a librarian with the New Orleans Public Library, continuing her commitment to making knowledge accessible to all. Beyond her professional roles, Carol was a trusted mentor whose guidance touched countless lives in meaningful and lasting ways.
Carol had a lifelong love of dogs, and her home was never without the joyful presence of her beloved companions. Among the many she cared for and adored over the years were Shadow, Lacy, Bourbon, Oscar, Bella, Georgie, Gracie, Dusty, Smokey, Lucky, Midnight, Irish, and Tramp. Each one is remembered fondly and was treasured deeply.
Carol is survived by her son Kevin Boitmann (Lane); her former husband Bernard Boitmann; her nephew Joey Jeanfreau, III (Anna); her niece Mattie Leidinger (R.J.); and her grandniece Ryley Leidinger. Carol was blessed by the enduring care and friendships of many, and her family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to those who made her final years brighter and more comfortable, including Tiffany Ruiz and Brittney Sonnier.
She is preceded in death by her parents Joseph Jeanfreau, Sr. and Cecilia Jeanfreau, and her brother Joey Jeanfreau, Jr.
The family would like to extend thanks to Carol’s friends, doctors, nurses, and staff at Fresenius Kidney Care Dialysis Center in Chalmette for their compassion, friendship, and care over many years. A deep appreciation goes to Healthy Solution Pharmacy for their kindness and personal attention, and to Benny Marrero for his constant help and assistance at Carol’s home. The family also extends its gratitude to Audubon Home Health Care and to the dedicated nurses and doctors at Ochsner Hospice Care Center, who provided exceptional support, dignity, and comfort during Carol’s final days.
A special, lasting thank you is reserved for her late brother Joey Jeanfreau, Jr., and her nephew Joey Jeanfreau, III, who provided so much love, assistance, and help to her through many chapters of life with unwavering devotion and care.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Carol’s life on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, with a visitation from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA 70043. A funeral service will follow at 11:00, with inurnment at St. Bernard Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are preferred to Animal Rescue of New Orleans (ARNO) www.animalrescueneworleans.org.
