Davey was beloved, and those who knew him best will remember the steady devotion he carried for the people he held closest—especially his wife, whom he loved deeply, and who loved him in return. Married for 40 years to Hope Kline Thonn, he built a life centered on family and the simple, lasting bonds that matter most.
A commercial fisherman by trade, Davey made his living on the water, crabbing, shrimping, and long line fishing for black drum. Away from work, his time was often happily spent with family, watching boxing, cheering on LSU football, and enjoying anything connected to boats and life on the water.
Davey is survived by his parents, John J. Thonn Jr. and Joyce D. Thonn; his wife, Hope Kline Thonn; his children, Charles D. Thonn Jr. aka Lil Davey (Madison L. Thonn), Cherie M. Thonn (Eric M. Norman), Joseph N. Catalano III, Michael J. Thonn Sr. aka Mikey (Gloria E. Alegria), Crystal A. Catalano (Adrian Cazenave), and Nicholas R. Thonn Sr. aka Nicky (Kayla A. Thonn); his grandchildren, Johnathan J. Thonn, Chelsea D. Cazenave, Michelle R. Bankston, Nicholas R. Thonn Jr., Chazden A. Cazenave, Michael J. Thonn Jr., Brooklyn I. Thonn, Nathan R. Thonn, Cash A. Cazenave, Ashlynn R. Thonn, Gianna E. Thonn, and Tierra A. Thonn; and his siblings, John J. Thonn III (Darnell B. Thonn) and Peggy T. Fabra (Rickey L. Fabra).
Davey was preceded in death by his brothers Rickey A. Thonn and Sidney R. Thonn; and his grandson Cazmen A. Cazenave.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Davey's life, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 2621 Colonial Blvd, Violet, LA 70092, on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. A memorial mass will follow at 11:00 am. He will be laid to eternal rest at St. Patrick Cemetery No. 3.
