Charline Mistretta Chimento

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Charline "Sherrie" Chimento, a devoted wife, beloved mamma, grandmother, lovingly known as "Ma" and "Mamawz," cherished sister, treasured friend, devoted nanny, and loving fur-baby mama, including her Sue, Bella, and all her past fur-babies and birds. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that she had touched in some way throughout her very memorable life.

Sherrie has left this earthly life and gained her angel wings. She is now reunited with her beloved mother and father, her brothers, and all the family and friends who went before her. Together, they rejoice in eternal peace, love, and happiness. Though our hearts are broken by her absence, we find comfort in knowing she is soaring high with the angels, watching over all who loved her.

She was the cherished wife of Albert John Chimento Sr. Loving mother of Sherrie Lynn Byerley (Ronnie) and Albert John Chimento Jr. (Tina). Grandmother of Abigail (Kevin), Angelique (Justin), Anthony, Ashton and Andre. Great grandmother of Landin, Sarah, Kevin Jr., Elijah, Penelope and Jette. Godmother of Charlen, Christin, Mattie and Misty. Sister of Judy Migliore (the late Santo), Donna Mistretta (the late Jim), Ralph Mistretta (Linda) and the late Dominick (the late Rosie) & Randy Mistretta.

Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Special memories and thanks to our State Representative, Michael Bayham; Charline’s godchild, Charlen Campo, who unwavering without hesitation and always ready to be at her side, along with her best friend, Kathy Bayham, and Kathy’s beloved Scotty who was waiting when Charline walked through those beautiful pearly gates.

Charline "Sherrie" Chimento was born on January 27, 1952, in New Orleans, LA. She attended St. Maurice Elementary School, Kohn Junior High School, and Nicholls "Rebels" High School. A proud lifelong resident of St. Bernard Parish, Sherrie cherished the community she called home and the people who filled her life with love.

Sherrie found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved thrift shopping, tending to her garden, and enjoying the occasional trip to the casino. More than anything, she found happiness in the little moments - spending time with family, caring for those she loved and making everyone around her feel welcomed and cherished.

In January 1968, Sherrie married the love of her life and soulmate, Albert John Chimento Sr. Together they built a life centered on faith, love and family, raising their two children with unwavering devotion, kindness and countless sacrifices. Through her example, she taught those around her that faith, hope, and love has the power to carry us through even life's greatest challenges.

Though illness often made Sherrie appear physically frail, her spirit was anything but. She faced every obstacle with remarkable courage, resilience, and determination. Her strength inspired everyone who knew her and reminded us that every day is a precious gift and an opportunity to love deeply, cherish one another and create lasting memories.

Sherrie will forever be remembered for her gentle heart, genuine kindness, generous spirit, and continuous love for her family and friends. She had a special way of making people feel cared for, whether through a comforting word, a thoughtful gesture or simply being there when she was needed most. She was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by all whose lives she touched. While our hearts grieve her absence, we take comfort in knowing that her legacy of love, compassion, faith, and strength will live on in the family and friends she held so dear.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial gathering at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 2621 Colonial Blvd, Violet, LA on Thursday, July 30th from 9:00AM – 11:00AM, followed by a Memorial Mass beginning at 11:00AM. Charline will be laid to eternal rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
