Dolores Hartman Bayard passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, April 12, 2021 at the age of 95. Beloved wife of the late Oliver August Bayard. Loving mother of Thomas Bayard (Donna), Timothy Bayard (Joan), Paul Granberry (Debbie) and James Bayard (Pat). Daughter of the late Peter A. Hartman Sr. and Ethel Lugenbuhl Hartman. Sister of Elroy Hartman (Patsy) and the late Peter Hartman Jr. Proud grandmother of Roy Bayard (Fay), Jill Schofield (Mike), Erin Johnston (Lane), Melissa Donnow (Josh), Katie Engolia (Lance), Sally Tyrney (Chris), Collette Stevens (Allen), Monique Bayard and Andi Bayard. Also survived by 13 great grandchildren and many nieces & nephews.
Dolores was born on February 25, 1926 in New Orleans, LA and was a graduate of Francis T. Nicholls High School. She grew up in the ninth ward where she lived for over 70 years before settling in Chalmette, LA. In her early years she worked with her mother and uncle at their restaurant M & H Oyster House. In the early 1960’s she began her career in banking with Hibernia Bank at the Carrollton and Canal Branch where she retired after 25 years of dedicated service. Dolores was an active member of AARP Pakenham Chapter 3926 where she served as Treasurer for twenty plus years. She enjoyed cooking, bowling, reading, crossword puzzles, traveling and going to the casino. She was strong in her faith and taught us the importance of family bonds. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends and by all those whose lives she touched.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will begin at 12:00 PM. She will be laid to rest in St. Roch Cemetery No. 2, New Orleans, LA. Due to COVID-19, face masks and social distancing are required.
