Donald Raymond Evans Sr., a retired boat captain and fisherman, passed away on Friday, April 20, 2018 at age 85. Mr. Evans was born in New Orleans, LA and was a lifelong resident of St, Bernard Parish. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 52 years Jeanette Latapie Evans, parents Raymond and Myrtle Russell Evans, in-laws Paul and Louise Latapie, and son in-law Ted Holmes Sr. Survivors include two devoted sons Donald Evans Jr. (Dinah) and Randy Evans (Sandra); two loving daughters, Rhonda Holmes and Connie Gilmore (John III); a brother, Lester Evans; two sisters Joyce Serpas and Judy Gutierrez; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Teddy (Jaime), Brandy, Jennifer (Jared), Krystal (Eric), Courtney, Amy (Paul Jr.), Eric, and Terri (Justin); and 11 great-grandchildren (Trey, Carter, Joseph, Gabrielle, Jack, Matt, Austin, Brilyn, Paisley, Eric Jr., Gabe) and host of other relatives and friends.
Donald served in the U.S. Army and worked as a boat captain at Elevating Boats Inc., for 30 years. Upon his retirement he built his own vessel, The "Captain Duck," and continued to work as a self-employed commercial fisherman for 15 more years.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 from 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM and on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2805 Bayou Rd., St. Bernard, LA. A Funeral Mass will begin at 12:00 PM. He will be laid to rest in St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery.
