

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donald Anthony “Hermosura” Woods Sr., a beloved father, grandfather, and great grandfather, who passed away at the age of 72. He was a loving husband to Grace Lavern Woods. Caring father of Lorena Yvette Guillory, Donald Anthony Woods Jr., and Victor Roland Woods. He was a proud grandfather to 6 grandchildren: brother to Francis E. Castillo, Norman O’Neil Woods Jr., and Nolan M. Woods. Anthony is preceded in death by his parents Norman O’Neil Woods Sr., and Imogene Francisca Woods.
Anthony was a man who passion for life and kindness towards others left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him. Born with a deep love for soccer, he played an instrumental role in shaping the city’s soccer community. In the late 1960’s, he was a founding member of the Olympia Soccer Team, the first of its kind in New Orleans. His dedication continued at his alma mater, Warren Easton High School, where he helped establish the school’s first soccer team. Beyond his contribution to soccer, Anthony was a friend to all. His generosity knew no bounds, and he was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. His warmth, friendliness, and unwavering kindness made him loved by many. He was without a doubt the friendliest person in the world, and his memory will forever live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Saturday, May 3, 2025, from 11:00AM- 1:00 PM. A funeral will begin at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
