Donna Jean McGill

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Donna McGill. Donna joined our heavenly father on August 19th, 2022 at the age of 62. Donna was born Wednesday April 27th, 1960 to Theresa and Harold Marchand in New Orleans, Louisiana. Donna attended Meraux Elementary and Chalmette Middle School. She graduated from P.G.T. Beauregard High School in 1978 and was a member of the drill squad. She married her loving husband, Shawn McGill on October 23rd, 2000. Donna is survived by her husband, two children Wayne Freire and Nicole Freire Weiser, grandchildren Maci Freire and Jayden Freire, sister-in-law Sheron McGill, sisters Marsha Hebert and Wanda Lansou. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Harold Marchand, her sister Barbara Marchand, and sister-in-law Kathleen McGill. She left behind many family members and special friends. Donna's greatest pride were her children and grandchildren. She loved spending time with family, friends, and caring for her cats. She was the owner of Slidell Nursery in which she ran successfully for 22 years. She enjoyed at her nursery caring for plants and customers, of which she became friends with many. Donna's strength and sacrifice were unrivaled, and she was an inspiration to many. She created love and beauty that will last through the generations.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Monday, August 29th from 10:00AM – 1:00PM, followed by a celebration of Donna’s life beginning at 1:00PM. She will be laid to eternal rest in a private ceremony.
