

Dorothy “Dot” Mae Lopez Franatovich passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at the age of 80. She was the cherished wife of Paul R. Franatovich for 62 Years, who was her one and only love. She first caught his eye while working at a corner watermelon stand, and the rest is history. Dorothy spent her final days surrounded by her family and friends. Loving mother of Paul Franatovich Jr., Ernest Franatovich (Debbie), Darryl Franatovich (Ellie) Lisa Franatovich Glaser (Bendon), and the late Danny Franatovich (Betty Kay). Daughter of the late Ernest V. and Bernice Henderson Lopez. Sister of Lucille Rautenberg and Rita L. Taylor. Proud grandmother of Amanda Franatovich (fiancé, Herman Murrell), Steven Franatovich, Mitchell Franatovich (Sarah), Chad Franatovich (Ashley), Amy McCrainie (Paul “Trey”), Candace Johnson, Lisa Garcia (fiancé, Darrel Walsh), Jose Garcia, Danielle Hendrix (Carey), Heather Barrett and Jeremy Ashinhurst. Also survived by 24 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, godchildren, friends and her beloved furever friend Lacey. Dorothy was a lifelong resident of St. Bernard Parish. She was a graduate of Nichols High School and St. Bernard Parish Community College. Dorothy was a LPN nurse and retired from Chalmette Medical Center after many years of service. She spent her younger years boating, fishing and camping. She also enjoyed sewing, pogo games and keeping up with friends and family on facebook. Dorothy will first be remembered for her special gift of love. She not only showed love to all but she had a way of making everyone feel special. It’s that special god given love that has bonded her family together, a bond so tight that it will last for generations. Dorothy will be forever remembered as a wonderful wife and mother not only to her family but all who came in contact with her. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Special thanks to Mr. Wayne Landry, Dr. Beary, Dr. Dale, Dr. Thien, Fr. Luke Nguyen and the nurses and Staff of St. Bernard Parish Hospital for the continuous commitment to the care of Dorothy and the compassion and extraordinary efforts to be sure the family had everything they needed. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at OUR LADY OF PROMPT SUCCOR CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2320 Paris Rd., Chalmette, LA on Monday, July 20, 2015 from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM. A Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 AM. Interment will be private. Mass intentions or donations to the Children’s Hospital requested in lieu of flowers in honor of Dorothy.
