Dorothy Olga Sanchez 86 years old departed this life on April 17, 2016 she went to meet her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for His Promise of Everlasting Life and to walk hand in hand with her husband Jules on The Shores of Love Eternal. She was born on June 22, 1929 in New Orleans to her adoring parents Sidney and Helen Kornick. She was a wonderful sister to her loving older brothers the late Sidney and Paul Kornick. She was married for 46 years to the love of her life Jules Sanchez, Sr. Until his death they frequently traveled throughout the United States from the East Coast to the West Coast and everywhere in between usually camping along the way, always meeting new friends and acquaintances. They truly had friends all over the US that they had met from their many trips. Once they were gone for 8 weeks when they traveled from New Orleans throughout the Western United States including a 2-week stay in Hawaii, but her favorite trip was the one she always talked about when she and our dad traveled along the Alaskan highway exploring Alaska and having the experience of their lifetime. Besides traveling and exploring The United States, she raised four children, Jules Sanchez, (wife Tina), Glenn Sanchez, (Karen Claverie), Barry Sanchez, (wife Dorothy), and Dorothy Roddy, (husband Joseph). She is the much loved Grandmother to 14 Grandchildren, and the proud Great Grandmother to a whole bevy of Great Grand Children, along with many nieces, nephews and friends galore. Until Hurricane Katrina destroyed her much beloved Arabi in Saint Bernard Parish she was a Faithful Member of St. Louise de Marillac Catholic Church. She was a devoted member of The Arabi Civic Association where she donated both her time and her energy to keeping Arabi Patriotic and Beautiful. She was never one to never let a cause to get in her way of writing letters. She wrote to Senators, Congressmen, Titans of Businesses and even President's of The United States - if she needed to get something off her mind, she wrote a letter. She was a wonderful person who was a friend to all, who touched the hearts of people everywhere. In July of 2015 she moved into Bethel Garden Assisted Living and Memory Care in Powder Springs, Ga. where she quickly became a shining light that employees and visitors alike quickly grew to love with all their hearts. Very special thanks to Carrie Collins and all the wonderful staff at Bethel Garden and to her granddaughter Allison Petroski who was always there to take care of her Grandmother, assuring she was getting the best medical care possible, along with Jennifer Brugier and Katie Petroski who also provided their nursing skills, helping keep her comfortable through her last days. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Olga's name to help ease the pain of the residence at Bethel Gardens Assisted Living and Memory Care at 3805 Jackson Way Extension Powder Springs, GA. 30127. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Thursday, April 21st from 11:00AM – 1:00PM, followed by a funeral service in Olga’s memory beginning at 1:00PM. She will be laid to rest with her beloved husband Jules in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
