With deep sorrow and heartfelt gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the passing of our beloved Ellen "Nana" Mara Couvillion. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, who departed this life at the age of 81. Ellen is survived by her husband, Ronald J. Couvillion Sr.; her sons, Ronnie Couvillion (Rachael) and Michael Couvillion (Sherri); her grandchildren, Kendall E. Couvillion, Ansley M. Couvillion, Chloe R. Couvillion, Claire E. Couvillion and Maddie G. Wilkinson; her godchildren, Maryellen R. Leger and Michelle L. Panepinto. She is preceded in death by her parents, Martin H. Mara & Ella Wirth Mara; her sister, Joann Francis Mara Roach (the late John W. Roach Jr.).
Ellen was a proud graduate of F. T. Nicholls High School, Class of 1962; she carried the lessons of perseverance, compassion, and dedication with her throughout her life. Those qualities guided her both personally and professionally. She devoted many years of service as a medical receptionist at Chalmette Medical Center. Her warm smile, gentle voice, and caring nature brought comfort to countless patients and coworkers. She had a natural gift for making others feel seen, heard, and valued. Above all, she was a devoted wife and a loving mother to her two sons. Her greatest joy, however, was being “Nana,” the cherished name lovingly given to her by her grandchildren. As Nana, she shared endless hugs, wise advice, warm meals, and unconditional love. The bond she shared with her family was the center of her world, and her legacy lives on in each of them. She will be remembered for her kindness, quiet strength, faith, and unwavering love for her family. Though our hearts are heavy, we are comforted knowing that her love will continue to guide us always.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in her memory to the Arthritis Foundation to support research and awareness for rheumatoid arthritis.
