Elroy M. Hartman Sr., passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 5, 2021, at Ochsner Slidell Hospital at the age of 83. He was a graduate of Holy Cross High School. He married Patricia Ann Lovell on April 13, 1958, in New Orleans. He grew up in the ninth ward where he lived for over 29 years before settling in Chalmette, LA. In his early years he worked with his mother and uncle at their restaurant M & H Oyster House. He worked as a purser for Lykes Brothers Steamship Company for over 35 years. Elroy truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; golfing, coaching, umpiring, line dancing, playing cards, telling jokes, trips to the casino, socializing with anyone he came into contact with and spending time with family and friends. He has built life-long relationships as an active member of the River Pilots Association, Quarter Century Club, the Marksmen and Our Lady of Prompt Succor Ushers Association. He is preceded by Peter and Ethel Hartman, parents, his brother, Peter Hartman, and sister Dolores Bayard. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Patsy; sons, Elroy Jr. and Darren (Dawn), his grandson, Darren II and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He was a caring, and devoted husband, father, and grandfather who loved his family. He will be deeply missed by all.
Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial gathering to be held at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Friday, September 17th from 9:00AM – 11:00AM, followed by a Memorial Mass in Elroy’s memory beginning at 11:00AM. He will be laid to eternal rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
