Evelyn Grob Culotta passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at the age of 89. Beloved wife of Charles Culotta. Loving mother of Rodi Culotta (Beth), Rodney Culotta and Randall Culotta (Lisa). Daughter of the late Earl J. and Leah Miller Grob. Sister of Shirley Grob Capone, Roland Grob, Earl J. Grob Jr. and the late Earline Grob Savastana. Proud grandmother of Stefan, Aron, Corbin and Logan Culotta. Great grandmother of Luca and Livia Culotta.
Evelyn was a native of Bertrandville, LA and a lifetime resident of St. Bernard Parish. She attended grammar and high school in Plaquemines Parish. Evelyn was a 1944 graduate of Southwestern University in Lafayette, LA. She was employed with Delta Shipyard in New Orleans and then with the Pentagon in Washington, DC. Evelyn then returned to New Orleans and worked in advertising until the time of her marriage, July 14, 1951.
Evelyn was an active volunteer in the YMCA's Operation Mainstream program, which tutored adult students in literacy and basic survival skills such as reading, maintaining a checking account, budgeting and using a street map. She was much appreciated by her students, and was awarded the Operation Mainstream Area Volunteer of the Year for St. Bernard Parish in September, 1990. In a January, 1991 newspaper article about her, she was quoted as saying, "It is the most rewarding thing ever. Nothing else has given me so much pleasure." She also enjoyed water color painting and gardening. Evelyn will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew her.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Friday, October 17, 2014 from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM. A Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Alzheimer's Association, alz.org in memory of Evelyn Grob Culotta.
