He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Theresa Bertheaud Saucier. Proud father of Stephen, Glenn (Carolyn), and Terry (Peter). Loving grandfather of 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grand children. He is the brother of Joann Saucier, Edward Saucier, and the late Cleona Blackwell. He also leaves behind his devoted companion, Florence Welborn.
Beginning in 1943, Floyd proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. He was active during World War II, the Pacific Theatre and California, and was honorably discharged in 1946. After his time in the military, he worked for Western Union Telegraph Company, retiring after 35 years. He served as VFW Commander for the Hinton Causey Post 7194, and was the first Commander of VFW Post #10666. He was the past Seam Squirrel of the Military Order of the Cooties, Pup Tent 15, and was currently representing the Cooties as VAVS representative. Floyd was also an active parishioner of St. Louise de Marillac Catholic Church, until its closing in 2005. He was a board member of AARP Chapter 3926, and an active member of the St. Bernard Council on Aging.
An evening visitation will be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. VIRTUE ST., in Chalmette on Sunday, May 27, 2018, from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM. On Monday, May 28, 2018, a morning visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM. Mass will follow at OUR LADY OF PROMPT SUCCOR CHURCH, 2320 PARIS RD., in Chalmette at 1:00 PM. Following mass, he will be laid to rest, with Military Honors, in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests Masses in remembrance of Floyd, or donations made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, in his honor.
