It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Frederick "Fred" H. Wallace Sr., age 87, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who peacefully departed this life surrounded by loved ones. Fred married the love of his life, Lena, for 67 wonderful years. Their love was a true example of lifelong devotion, built on faith, laughter, and shared memories. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with family, hard work, and community. A kind-hearted and gentle man, Fred lived his life in service to others. He was always the first to lend a helping hand and never asked for anything in return. Whether it was taking care of the candles at church, opening and closing the doors for Sunday service, cleaning, ushering, or any other task that needed doing, he served with quiet humility and joy. His dedication was recognized when he was honored with the St. Louis Award for his contributions to the parish he so dearly loved. He found peace and happiness in the simple joys of life—tending to his garden and yard, riding around on his beloved tractor and wagon, and sitting on the front porch with Izzy, watching the traffic and trains go by. He cherished time spent with his children and grandchildren, especially during fishing and crabbing trips—making memories that will live on in their hearts forever. Fred was a man of many skills and passions. He enjoyed woodworking and took pride in the things he built with his hands. He was also a beloved fixture in the community through his work: he was the proud owner of a vending company supplying candy and chips and brought smiles to many through his ice cream shop, Snookie’s. He was also known for working the beer truck at the local Tomato Festival, where his warm smile and good humor made him a favorite among festivalgoers.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lena H. Wallace; his children, Congetta M. Wallace, AJ Wallace; grandchildren, Noah Wallace, Lucus Wallace (Amanda) and Hannah Wallace; his siblings, Peggy D. Maynard (Ronnie) and Roy Edward Wallace and many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly. Fred is preceded in death by his son, Frederick H. Wallace Jr. (Roberta “Robbie”), his parents, Fred L. Wallace and Mattie Pearl Harrington Wallace. Above all, Fred was a man of faith, family, and integrity. His legacy will live on through the love he shared, the example he set, and the lives he touched. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that Masses be said in his memory at Our Lady of Prompt Succor.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at OUR LADY of PROMPT SUCCOR, 2320 Paris Rd., Chalmette, LA on Friday, July 11, 2025 from 10:00 AM- 12:00 PM. A mass will begin at 12:00 PM. Burial will follow in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
