Mr. George was a great person to be around.  I was a childhood friend of Theresa and got to know him well. He was always working hard but always had time for his family. A couple of times he went to his family's place and invited me. I enjoyed it. One time was at Pizza Hut and the whole family was there. He was also a great animal lover. He would take care of so many of them. I also loved to hear Theresa tell me that her dad wrote her something special or got her something. Mr. George was a great neighbor to the people on Schnell Dr. .

Today was a really hard day such a good man gone too soon.Working with George was so much fun we had a lot of good times together. He has taught me everything I know at the job. I always enjoyed listening to the stories Uncle Georgie would share at family gatherings.  One of my favorites was the story involving Pall Mall cigarettes.  From what I can recall, while with his brothers and friends at a hunting camp in New Orleans, Uncle Georgie was planning to make a beer run to the nearest store.  Before he departed, my Uncle Dale asked him to fetch a pack of Marlboro cigarettes, but he misheard what he had said and thought that he wanted "Pall Mall" cigarettes.  Uncle Georgie arrived to the store and requested from the shopkeeper a pack of Pall Mall cigarettes.  Perplexed, and after considering his request for quite some time, the shopkeeper told him that he just might have a pack available.  The shopkeeper dug around from behind the counter and finally produced a dusty pack of Pall Mall cigarettes.  The shopkeeper blew the dust from the pack, and handed it to my uncle.  When Uncle Georgie arrived back to the hunting camp, Uncle Dale was quite shocked that he returned with not Marlboro but Pall Mall cigarettes.  

Uncle Georgie was always optimistic and carried with him an upbeat attitude and infectious personality.  Never had I witnessed him in a sour or bad mood or having displayed any sort of anger toward another individual.  He knew that family was of utmost importance in one's life.

I will miss Uncle Georgie, his stories, and his eccentricities.

Barbier family, my family, Georgie will be dearly missed, I can't remember any function that he wasn't an enjoyed part of, his infectious laughter would bring a smile to everyone, making them want to be a participant even if just for a little while. To me he was an adviser, brother and friend and his jovial attitude was warm and genuine. His "victory" dance on the fantail of his boat was Fred Astaire quality and often was attempted by others to replicate, but no one could quite match his gait. You will be sorely missed my big brother from my other mother.

Georgie was always the life of the party, especially at all those great new years' eve parties at his parents house on rose st. we would sing, dance, and just plain act foolish. those were the best times I ever had living in New Orleans. I'm so blessed to have known the Barbier family. 42 years of friendship, and still going strong. my thoughts and prayers are with the family, as they are my family as well. I remember how he built a porch on the FEMA trailer after Katrina. I remember how we sat on the porch and played with the dogs and watched the birds when Mrs. Jean, my sister, Nancy, and I went to visit. George and Yvette made us feel so welcome and there was a lot of love of family  and friends shown on the porch of that FEMA trailer. It has been a long time since I saw you, but I have great memories of us growing up together and our trips to the camp.  Fun times and childhood memories that will forever be treasured in my heart. Thanks for being such a great friend!

Georgie was a wonderful brother-in-law, who brought much happiness and laughter to every gathering we had.  His sense of humor and "chicken dance" will live on forever.  In recent weeks by the camp, we spent many nights into the wee hours just talking about life in general that I'll treasure forever.

Uncle Georgie was a great uncle and great friend.  I will miss him very much.

Georgie, Yvette, and I were heading out to the mouth of "Unknown Pass" in Lake Borgne to go crabbing.  After we baited up roughly 100 crab nets, Georgie went to start the motor.  Surprisingly, the new Evinrude motor would not start.  This was a brand new motor that we weren't familiar with, and we were unaware that a fuse had blown.  So, we found ourselves on shore somewhere in Lake Borgne without any paddles.  We pushed and pulled the boat along the shoreline in the direction home.  We didn't see any boats, until we got to the intracoastal canal.  One boat did eventually pass at this point, and we attempted to wave him down, but he kept going.  Determined, we kept pulling the boat along the shoreline, until we eventually got to Lake Catherine.  The wind was blowing in the direction of the camp.  Georgie resourcefully rigged up a poncho that became a makeshift sail, and we slowly but surely sailed across the lake and made it home safely in one piece.  I'm sure Georgie's thoughts would have been, "Never be caught up a creek without a paddle."

I'ts been a lone time since I had seen
or talked to George,but it seems like yesterday that we worked at Western Electric, were we had so many fun days.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.

But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;

It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,

And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

I will always remember George and the entire Barbier family for their kindness and giving nature.  I worked in Loiusiana for over a year as a contractor for the company where Miike and George worked.  After a few weeks I was adopted by the Barbier family and they took care of me for the next year and a half.  George was one of the most caring and giving men I have ever known.  I was sharing a story with my son last week about me and George.  I know that Mike will understand when we make a trip to the Rigolets Bridge to catch a few Tarpin.  We will have in tow my rod, purchased at the request of George, that I have fondley named "George". 

Although he will be sorely missed, George's memories will live on.  I know that any person who met George and the Barbier family will have their own story.

My heart felt sympathy for the Barbier family and many thanks to George for the memories!

One of the nicest men I have every meant. His smile, his eyes would light up. He was great to work with and he will be truly missed.

Another favorite memory of dad - he used to write me notes every morning in a red notebook, because he would usually be at work by the time I got up for school. I kept that notebook until I lost it in Katrina. I wish I still had it today. That's the type of dad he was though, always thinking about his family.

I wanted to send this out with hopes of explaining the joy that Georgie brought us. He will surely be missed in the physical sense, but in the spiritual as well as the memories we have of him he will forever be in our heart's.

Preface:   
I am not one who is good with expressing my feelings via spoken words, so please allow me to express the loss felt, the only way I know.

It is said that " Every man shall die, yet not every man shall live ".  
I truly believe that Georgie is one of the few who chose to live.

He has shared so much of himself with everyone he had contact with. Always one to make lighthearted jokes, his infectious laughter sure to make even the humorless of personalities smile.

The compassion and care he had for his family and friends, are but two of the many endearing qualities that made him such a loveable person. 

The next time I watch the sun rise over the horizon and the sweet, musky odor of the marsh at low tide fills the air while the suns ray's shine off the morning dew. I will imagine the burbling of a diesel engined clan skiff as it slowly makes it way towards the Rigolets, carrying a man with a smile and heart as big as the lake itself.
As the first drag of the day is slowly winched in, I can hear him say " Yes Indeed " while rubbing his hands together in anticipation of another bountiful day.

I say this not to detract from the loss that is felt, but to celebrate the life of one of God's many wonderful creation's and also because I " Believe ".

In his passing we will mourn our loss. Yet we should also choose to celebrate the life, love and laughter that he has brought to and shared with each and every one of us. For without that joy, we would never know what it is to truly live.

Our sincerest condolences and love go out to you in this time of sorrow and may you find solace in knowing that Georgie is in a place that know's no pain.

I remember missing school for a few days because I was sick. My dad stayed home to take care of me. We played rummy and he told me this story about being the Rummy King. He told me he was the best rummy player on this cruise ship he was on and that's how he earned the title. I'm pretty sure he let me win a few hands just so I could say I beat the Rummy King. I had so much fun hanging out with him all day that I pretended to be sick another day just so I could stay home with him. Words cannot begin to express how much I miss him, his jokes and stories. He was my best friend and my biggest supporter. Nothing will ever be the same without him.

George worked at Southern Natural for many years.  I also worked with his brother Mike for many years.  Both are great men and George will be missed.  My prayer is that all of his family have peace.  Gary Nicosia

Georgie, you were a kind & gentle soul who always had a smile on your face. I remember you & Fred met 45 years ago at A & P and have been friends ever since. We had great times in the VW, especially when we went to Hattisburg on the spur of the moment and broke down the next day on the way home on a country road. Fun days at the camp & in the boat. Great times that will be remembered, even by Lil Fred & Adam. Enjoy your forever fishing trip in Heaven, because God has gained a new angel. Love & miss you, Sylvia and Fred
