

It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the passing of Gladys A. Alegria, a remarkable woman at the age of 74, whose life was defined by devotion, joy, and an unbreakable bond with her family. Born in Honduras, and longtime resident of Chalmette. Through strength, resilience, and determination, she built a beautiful life centered on faith, love and family. She shared 51 wonderful years of marriage with her beloved husband; a partnership rooted in unwavering love and admiration. She loved him deeply, and he, in turn, adored her beyond measure—a true testament to a lifelong romance that inspired all who knew them.
As a mother, she embodied dedication in its purest form. She showed up, day after day, with patience, resilience, and a fierce love that never wavered. Whether celebrating life’s joys or weathering its storms, she stood beside her children with quiet strength and steadfast support, always putting their needs above her own. Her greatest joy in life was her grandchildren. They were the light of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them, filling their lives with laughter, warmth, and unforgettable memories. She was known for her vibrant spirit and infectious energy. A true life of the party, she brought joy wherever she went, lighting up every room with her laughter and presence. She also had a passion for traveling the world, embracing new places and experiences with curiosity and enthusiasm.
Gladys is survived by her beloved husband, Luis F. Alegria Sr., her children, Erika Sanchez-Funes (Hector), Melissa Santos (Bruce) and Louis Alegria Jr. (Ashley); her grandchildren, Carlos Sanchez Jr., Bruce Santos Jr., Anthony Funes and Abbigail Alegria; her siblings, Dilma Mejia (Pablo), Raymundo Fino Jr. (Maria), Luis Fino (Juanita) and Cesar Fino (Brenda). She is preceded in death by her parents, Raymundo and Argelia Fino; her sister, Olga Carias (Jesus).
She will be remembered as a loving wife, dedicated mother, devoted grandmother, and a woman whose heart knew no bounds. Her legacy of love, strength, and joy will live on in the lives of all who were blessed to know her. Gladys will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
The family asks that you join them for a reception to follow in magnolia room after the funeral.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Friday, April 10, 2026, from 11:00AM- 1:00 PM. A mass will begin at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
