On July 10, 2026, the world lost a remarkable man, Grant Schurr, who passed away at the age of 70. Born on December 28, 1955, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Grant was the beloved son of Leo and Joyce Schurr. He leaves behind the love of his life and devoted wife of nearly 53 years, Colleen; his children, Troy Schurr (Michelle), Kimberly and Kellie Draughn (Michael); his six beloved grandchildren, Gavin, Hailey, Avery, Kambrie, Hunter, and Hudson. He is also survived by more than a dozen nieces and nephews, along with many great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom will forever cherish his memory. Grant was preceded in death by his parents and his cherished siblings, Brenda Dewint, Leo Schurr Jr., and Jeffrey Schurr Sr.
Grant and Colleen began their lifelong journey together when they were married on October 6, 1973, in St. Bernard Parish. Their marriage was a beautiful example of enduring love, built on unwavering commitment, shared adventures, and the joy of raising a wonderful family together. Alongside his longtime friend and business partner, Sid Schuler, Grant co-founded S&S, which enabled them to build a legacy of Housing and Construction Businesses that served throughout the New Orleans Metro area. For more than five decades, they earned a respected reputation, and a lifetime of friends along the way.
Grant was known not only for the quality of his work but also for his honesty, reliability, and the relationships he built with those he served. Grant found joy in traveling, learning about history, planting a vegetable garden each spring, and spending time with family and friends whenever he could. He and Colleen especially treasured time at their cabin in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, where they made countless memories and loved welcoming family and friends to enjoy it with them.
Those who knew Grant will remember his unmatched work ethic, unwavering devotion to his family, infectious smile, quick wit, and playful sense of humor. He had a gift for making people laugh, lending a helping hand, and leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met. Our family is deeply grateful to everyone who visited Grant, reached out to him, and reminded him of how much he was loved during his final days. We are equally thankful for the overwhelming outpouring of love, prayers, and support we have received since his passing. Your kindness has brought us great comfort during this difficult time, and we will always be grateful.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Friday, July 17, 2026, from 11:00 AM- 1:00 PM. A funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL GARDENS.
