James Glenn Newton Sr.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Glenn Newton Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, who passed away at the age of 77. For 49 wonderful years, he shared a loving and devoted marriage with the love of his life. Together, they built a family that became the greatest joy and accomplishment of his life. He was a proud father to seven children, a cherished grandfather to 20 grandchildren, and a treasured great-grandfather to 25 great-grandchildren. Nothing brought him greater happiness than spending time with his family, whose love and laughter filled his life with purpose.

In his younger years, he enjoyed spending time fishing, finding peace on the water and creating lasting memories with family and friends. Later in life, he discovered a passion for golfing, enjoying the friendships and challenges the game brought. While he appreciated these hobbies, his greatest pride was always his family, whose lives he touched with his love, guidance, and unwavering support. He dedicated many years of his career to the Asbestos Workers Local 53, where he was respected for his hard work, commitment, and strong work ethic. His dedication to his trade and his fellow workers reflected the same integrity and loyalty that defined every aspect of his life.

He will be remembered for his kind heart, quiet strength, sense of humor, and the deep love he had for his wife and family. His legacy lives on through the generations he helped shape and the countless memories he leaves behind.

James is survived by his wife, Dianna Ritzmann Newton; his children, James Newton, Holly Mottet, Sher Briggs, Jennifer Dupas, Jim Duggan, Jeff Duggan and Jerry Duggan. His 20 grandchildren and 25 great- grandchildren; his many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, James & Lorraine Newton; his siblings, Sue Bee and Donald Newton Sr.

James will be deeply missed and forever loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial gathering at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA, on Saturday, August 15, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. A memorial service will begin at 1:00 PM.
