

On December 30, 2025, at 6:55 pm, Jerry D. Blackwell Sr. went to his Lord and Savior. Born May 7, 1936, in Bogalusa, LA to Lucille McGehee and Tillie Edward Blackwell Sr. He leaves behind his loving wife of 63 years, Judith and his children Eva Marie and Jerry D. Jr. He will be joining his daughter, Vicki Lynn, his parents, brother Tillie (“Junior”), sisters Betty Jo, Bobbie Nell and Patty Sue. His remaining sister Jackie Bowles will continue the family legacy.
Jerry led a full life. He helped raise 3 children. Special family Michael Theobald (Theresa), Devin Theobald, Robyn Bailey (Jason), Julianna and Alexandra Bailey filled his life. He joined the Army Reserves in 1954 serving until 1985 retiring with the rank of E-6. During this time, he enrolled in Southern Baptist Hospital X-Ray Tech program graduating in 1962. He worked for Southern Baptist for 33 years then several years for Lifecare Hospital retiring in 2024. Following Katrina, he moved to Baton Rouge making many new friends. He was a member of Most Blessed Sacrament church and a proud member of the Louisiana American Legion.
In lieu of flowers, donation in his honor can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or St Jude Children’s Hospital.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial gathering to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Monday, January 12th from 10:00AM – 11:00AM, followed by a Memorial Mass in Jerry’s memory beginning at 11:00AM. He will be laid to eternal rest in a private ceremony in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
