Jimmy Philip Hunt

Jimmy P. Hunt passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, March 9, 2026 at the age of 90. In his final days, he was surrounded by the love of his family and close friends. A devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Jimmy lived a life defined by service, dedication and deep love for his family. Those who knew him will remember his steady strength, good nature, generous heart and deep commitment to the people and causes he cared about most. Jimmy was born in Mississippi and raised in New Orleans, LA. He graduated from Nicholls High School before earning a degree in Accounting from Louisiana State University. He proudly served his country for 44 years in the United States Air Force and Air National Guard, retiring with the rank of Colonel as a highly respected and decorated officer. Jimmy was also a longtime resident of Belle Chasse, LA, where he made his home for more than 50 years and built a life centered on family, community, and service.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Gay Gonzales Hunt; his daughters, Dawnell Sandoz (Steve) and Michelle Barrosse (Earl); his sons, Jimmy P. Hunt Jr. (Cathy), Irin Alphonso (Anne), and Eric Alphonso (Charlene); and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, David Alphonso. He was the son of the late K.C. Hunt and Ouida Ballard. He is also survived by his sister, Evelyn Dendinger, and was preceded in death by his sister, Rita Thibaut. Mr. Hunt was the proud grandfather of 18 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He will be remembered for his service to his country, his dedication to his family, and the lasting impact he had on all who knew him.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, from 9:30 AM- 11:30 AM, followed by a funeral service in Jimmy’s memory beginning at 11:30 AM. He will be laid to eternal rest with military honors in the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, Slidell, LA.
