Jo Anne Updegraff Pentney passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and cherished memories. She was born on August 15, 1958, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and spent nearly her entire life in St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana, the place she proudly called home.
Jo Anne was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carl Henry Pentney; her parents, Charles Updegraff, Sr. and Lorraine Mackles Wuertz; her sisters, Yvonne "Sue" Updegraff and Regina Eagan; her brothers, Charles Edward Updegraff II, who passed away in infancy, and Charles Edward Updegraff III; and her beloved niece, Christina Billiot.
She is lovingly remembered by her children, Salvadore William Carawan, Jr. (Tonya), Carl Henry "CJ" Pentney, Jr. (Amanda), and Sunny Lynn Robinson (Jeremy); her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her brother, John "Bubba" Della Valle (Donna); and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Though small in stature, Jo Anne was larger than life. She was voted "Most Friendly" by her classmates, and that title stayed with her throughout her life—she truly never met a stranger. She enjoyed football, especially cheering for her beloved New Orleans Saints, and found joy in life's simple pleasures. Life made her strong, but her family was always her greatest treasure. She loved them deeply and with everything she had.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Gary Majors. Thank you for the many years you spent lovingly caring for Jo Anne with unwavering love, compassion, and devotion. Your faithful presence throughout the final chapter of her life was a gift beyond measure, and your kindness will never be forgotten.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Monday, August 10th from 11:00AM – 1:00PM, followed by a celebration of Jo Anne’s life beginning at 1:00PM. She will be laid to eternal rest in St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery.
