OBITUARY

Joan Grisaffi Fleetwood

May 14, 1939September 4, 2020

Joan Grisaffi Fleetwood, age 81, entered eternal peace on Friday, September 4th 2020. Dearest Joan was born May 14, 1939 and was a lifelong resident of New Orleans and St. Bernard Parish. Following graduation from John McDonogh High School, she wed Edward “Red” Fleetwood and settled in Arabi, Louisiana to raise their three children. A longtime employee of New Orleans Country Club’s accounting department, Joan was a devout Catholic. She had been an active parishioner of St. Robert Bellarmine and more recently Our Lady of Prompt Succor in Chalmette, LA. A pilgrimage to Our Lady of Medjurgorje in the former Yugoslavia continued to hold incredible significance in her devotion to the Blessed Mother Mary. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Edward Fleetwood; father, Salvador Grisaffi; mother, Myrtle Halsall Grisaffi and brother, Raymond Grisaffi. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to many, Joan leaves behind children Edward (and April) Fleetwood Jr.; Dionne (and Matt) Immel and Bryan (and Cheryl) Fleetwood, Sr.; grandchildren Lauren (and Michael) Cullen, Bryan (and Mandy) Fleetwood, Jr., Jonathan (and MacGregor) Immel, Corey (and Jacqueline) Fleetwood, Brittney (and Corey) Chilton and Rhett Fleetwood; great-grandchildren Shae, Tripp, Addy, Hazel and Olive Cullen, Emerson and Elle Fleetwood, Talan and Beckham Chilton and Hayes Immel. In lieu of flowers, please consider having a mass said in Joan’s name at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church or your local catholic parish.

To a wonderful lady who was a joy to serve her at the Bank. Always had a smile on her face even through the pain she suffered through. Was a kind, warm & pleasant Lady whom I will never forget. I love you Joan

Joan will be greatly missed. She was such a loving, funny & caring person. When we were together all she talked about were her children and how blessed she was. I will treasure the fond memories we shared.

I’m so glad Joan and I reconnected after my mom’s passing. Mom and Joan were first cousins (my mom, Gayle, was May Ellen’s daughter). We had lunch several times over the past five years. I was looking forward to another get together before moving to Connecticut, but unfortunately the pandemic hit. We did talk on the phone in May and looked forward to seeing each other when I visit New Orleans. So sad that we can never know a goodbye is a last goodbye. Joan has the biggest heart and was an exceptionally kind soul. I will miss her. I’m attaching a photo from November 2015. Sonny, me, Joan, Susan, and Robert at Toups Meatery. A wonderful memory.

Joan was my first boss out of college we became friends during my time at the Country Club. I loved her and her family like my own they took me in for the holidays when I couldn't travel home to Ohio. I send my love and prayers to EJ, Dionne and Bryan and their extended families. She will be missed. God Bless

Condolences to her family on their loss. She was a wonderful person to be around. I remember when she would attend mass with her husband at OLPS church. Then when she would go to the COA.
