It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Field Blanchard Sr., age 83, who departed this life peacefully on September 28,2025 surrounded by his loving family. He lived a full and meaningful life rooted in hard work, devotion to family, and quiet generosity. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of many years, Sandra L'Hoste Blanchard, who passed in 2019. Since her passing, he remained devoted to his family, cherishing every moment with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
John was a graduate of Delgado Community College’s Drafting program, a skill that became the foundation of a long and respected career. He served as Superintendent for both Cabildo and Broadmoor Construction Companies, overseeing numerous projects with diligence and pride. One of his proudest professional achievements was his role as Superintendent of the Heritage Plaza in Metairie, LA—a landmark that stands as a testament to his dedication and craftsmanship. He also brought his expertise to the federal level, working for the General Services Administration (GSA), where his integrity and work ethic made a lasting impression. Earlier in life, he served in the Merchant Marines, an experience he often spoke of with honor.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, John found immense joy in working with his hands, especially woodworking. His family treasures the handmade pieces he lovingly created, each one a symbol of his care and creativity. More than anything, his greatest joy in life was his grandchildren. Whether attending their events, sharing stories, or simply enjoying their company, he lit up most when surrounded by their laughter and love.
John leaves behind a legacy of strength, craftsmanship, and unwavering love for family. He is survived by his children, Heather Blanchard and John Field Blanchard Jr (Natasha); his grandchildren, Cole James Caton, Ava Lucianna Caton, John Field Blanchard III, Sage Margarite Caton and Grace Ann Blanchard; his great-grandchildren, Elise Marques and Kylen Letulle, and countless others whose lives he touched. John is preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Blanchard; his parents, Jefferson Leon Blanchard and Marguerite Eunice Masson; his brothers, Jefferson Leon Blanchard Jr., Charles Joseph Blanchard and Lucian Masson. His presence will be deeply missed, but his memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
