John William "Corky" Booth Jr entered into eternal rest on January 5, 2025. John was the only child of John W. Booth Sr and Frances Arena Booth of Arabi, Louisiana. John was a life long resident of St. Bernard Parish and elected to establish his family's roots in the same parish. John was a graduate of Chalmette High School in 1962 and was elected Prom King in the respective year, but then decided that he would rather go fishing instead so the title was passed down. In 1963 John enlisted in the Air Force and achieved the rank of Sargent. John served in Del Rio Texas at Laughlin Air Force Base as an Air Force Mechanic and specialized in the T-37 and the T-38 "Tweeter Birds" trainer jets for new pilots. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1967. John held numerous jobs such as working on the River for "Mr. Sidney's tug boats" and for CSX railroad (which came later on in his career). However, John's crown jewel for his favorite job was working for Boeing on the Saturn 5 booster rocket for the Apollo missions. John would smile and light up as a child on Christmas morning when he had the opportunity to speak about the Saturn 5 Booster Rocket and anything alien or extraterrestrial related. When John left the Air Force he pursued the family life and met the love of his life Dagmar Larrieu Booth at her Family's Bakery which conveniently was located down the street from the Booth's family business, Champion Finance. John and Dagmar married in 1969 (55 long, arduous years) and began their family right away having their oldest daughter Angél Booth Nettles in 1970, their second daughter Brandi Booth in 1973 (partner Ryan Hedman) and their two sons Ryan Hedman Jr and Ian Hedman and finally their third daughter in 1978, Colette Booth Hart (husband Christian "Chris" Hart and daughter Chloe Hart.)
Johns passions were fishing, cooking, gardening, sky watching and making friends.
John was a parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Violet, Louisiana where he served his special chargrilled oyster recipe at the annual Oyster Festival more than he actually attended church.
The Booth Family wishes to thank the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Care system and his caretaker Angel Nicosia. Also the nurses at West Jefferson Hospital and the nurses at the Lakeview Hospital in Covington for the dedication, care and love they showed for John in his final moments.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Friday, January 17th from 9:00AM – 11:00AM, followed by a funeral service in John’s memory beginning at 11:00AM. He will be laid to rest with military honors in a private ceremony at Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Slidell, LA.
