

John Wesley Palmer III passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, August 4, 2016 at the age of 83. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that he had touched in some way throughout his very memorable life. He was the beloved husband of 57 years to Jeanette Parro Palmer. Loving father of Melissa P. Gaspard (Danny). Son of the late John W. Palmer Jr. and Catherine Saba Palmer. Proud grandfather of Matthew Gaspard and Michelle O’Neill (Timothy). Great grandfather of Catherine Rose O’Neill. He is also survived and fondly remembered by many relatives, cousins and dear friends. John was born in New Orleans, LA and was a longtime resident of St. Bernard Parish. He proudly served his country from 1953-1955 in the U.S. Marine Corps. Following his service, he enjoyed a long career as a Trainer of Thoroughbred Horses and retired after serving 23 years with the St. Bernard Parish Government. He will be forever remembered as a loving and loyal husband, father, grandfather and a friend of many, who treasured his family. Special thanks to Dr. Ryan Truxillo, Casey Saavedra and their staff; Dr. Robert Kessler & staff; Mrs. Catherine Williams and employees/volunteers at St. Bernard Parish Fire Dept. No. 1 for their kindness and support. The family is also thankful to Lorean Smith and Sharena Davis of Notre Dame Hospice who showed care and respect which made it possible to fulfill John’s wish to remain at home. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at OUR LADY OF PROMPT SUCCOR CHURCH, 2320 Paris Rd., Chalmette, LA on Saturday, August 13th from 10:00AM – 12:00PM, followed by a Funeral Mass beginning at 12:00PM. He will be laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery, New Orleans, LA. In lieu of flowers, Masses preferred or a donation in memory of John to Carmelites Cloistered Nuns, 73530 River Rd., Covington, LA 70435.
