

Johnny Benjamin Nobles died Thursday, May 4, at the age of 87. He was born in Hodge, LA, and was a proud resident of St. Bernard Parish for over 60 years. Beloved husband of Gayle Guerra Nobles for 62 years. Father of Melanie Nobles Cross (Troy), Terri Nobles (Barry Kirn), Johnny Nobles, Jr. (Janel), and Lonny Nobles (Pamela). Grandfather of Mary Cross, Erin Cross Arrieta (Carlos), Lauren Cross (Bradley Haynes), Campbell Kirn, Jeb Kirn, Avery Nobles, Wyatt Nobles and Sayler Nobles. Great grandfather of Leo Arrieta, Charlotte Arrieta and Elle Haynes. Son of John Robert Nobles and Effie Treadway Nobles. Brother of Pat Nobles, Bobbie Nobles Trichel, Lonnie James Nobles (Cecile), Robert Charles Nobles, Debra Nobles Phillips (Kenneth), and Frankie Nobles Aligholizadeh (Manoucher). Half brother of Johnny Robert Nobles, Jr. (Debbie) and Patricia Nobles Chavez (Adan). Stepbrother of Frederick Denham, Jr. (Yvonne) and Charles Denham (Eva). Johnny was also dearly loved by several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was a veteran, having served his country as an airman in the United States Air Force Strategic Air Command and was responsible for initiating and organizing an annual reunion of fellow airmen that was enjoyed by all who attended. He was an employee of Brown & Root at the Gulf Alliance Refinery in Belle Chasse, LA, for approximately 30 years before his retirement in 1999. He was a member of the Dominique You Lodge #468 in St. Bernard for 50 years, as well as the Order of the Eastern Star of Louisiana 252 Alberta Retif fraternal beneficiary society. Johnny loved NASCAR, country music, his cabin in Natchitoches, and sharing old stories over coffee with countless family and friends. His generosity, strength, and deep love of family will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Friday, May 12th from 10:00AM – 1:00PM, followed by a Funeral Mass in Johnny’s memory beginning at 1:00 PM. He will be laid to eternal rest in St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery.
