Joy Alonzo Guidroz, age 70, a St. Bernard native, passed away on Saturday, September 4, 2021. She is survived by her loving daughter Brooke Nicole Guidroz and her granddaughter Kylie Alexis Munoz. She is also survived by her step-daughters, Michelle Guidroz Bennett and Ginga Guidroz, “Nanny” to nephew Ronald James Alonzo, Jr. and niece Tara Alonzo Priola, and first cousin Gene Alonzo, as well as many great nieces and nephews. Former spouse of Alba Francis Guidroz, Jr. She is preceded in death by her father Adam Joseph Alonzo and mother Bertha Acosta Alonzo, brother Ronald James Alonzo, Sr. and cousin Carlos Alonzo.
Joy was a long-time employee of the St. Bernard Parish School Board working for over 30 years at various schools in the Special Education program. She impacted so many youth, because she showed them compassion and kindness. She was loved by her students and co-workers alike.
Joy always wore a smile, loved to laugh, was kind hearted, upbeat and found the positive side of every situation. She never met a stranger and loved to talk to everyone. Joy loved to attend mass, travel, sing and dance. Joy’s greatest role of all was being the best “Mimi” to her granddaughter Kylie, who was her pride and joy.
The Guidroz Family would like to extend a special thanks to the caring employees of Park Provence Senior Living Center in Slidell who provided wonderful care to Joy over the last two years.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass beginning at 11:00 AM to be held at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Thursday, September 16, 2021. Burial will immediately follow at Saint Bernard Catholic Cemetery, Kenilworth, LA.
