Our sweet mom, Joyce H. Gauthier, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 3, 2018, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 27, 1934, to the late Francis Xavier Hoffmann and the late Irene LaFargue Hoffmann. Joyce was the beloved wife of the late Donald James Gauthier for 57 years. She was the loving mother of Jeannine Albrecht (Mark), Julie Melson (Charlie), Joni Nunez (Bob), Jayne Ryan (Rickey) and Jill Neumann (Elliott). She was the loving sister of Theresa Esteves (Charlie) and the late RoseMary Frechou (Sidney). “Meme” was the loving grandmother of Nicole (Jason), Matt (Michelle), Mindi (Justin), Nicholas, Angela, Rob (Deana), Rae (Chris), Megan, Desi (Brittany), Lindsey, Rickey (Alison), Tabitha, Travis, Elliott, and the late Crystal Melson Comeaux. Meme loved her 19 great-grandchildren, including the late Matthew Comeaux, and her 1 great-great-grandson. Joyce is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends who loved her. Joyce attended Annunciation High School where she was the recipient of the American Legion award, and graduated as Salutatorian. She and Don lived in Arabi for over 40 years, and were faithful parishioners of St. Robert Bellarmine Church. After Hurricane Katrina, Joyce and Don relocated to Carriere, Mississippi, and were parishioners of St. Charles Borromeo Church. Joyce and Don loved their family and friends so much, and were always the host of many celebrations. She loved the friends she made in the St. Bernard Homemakers Club, Stitch in Time, and the Newcomer’s Club. A special thanks goes out to the warm and loving care and companionship provided by her special sitters. The family would like to extend a debt of gratitude to the wonderful caretakers at Kare-in-Home Home Health and Hospice as well as to the medical staff at Ochsner Clinic, where she received many years of wonderful care. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue Street, in Chalmette, on Friday, December 7, 2018 from 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM. A Funeral Mass will be held in her honor at 10:00 AM. She will be laid to rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.

Jeannine, Julie, Joni, Janie and Jill.....
I was so saddened to hear of the passing of "Aunt" Joyce. Ceci used to run down the hall when she saw "Donald Gauthier" on caller ID yelling " Maw-Maw, Aunt Joyce is calling you!". Our Mom's had such a special friendship.
I'm sorry I can't make the services, but will be keeping all of you close in prayer in the coming days.

What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch. We may not understand why you left this earth so soon, or why you left before we were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that you died, but that you lived. And that your life gave us memories too beautiful to forget"

Death leaves a heartache no one can heal,

love leaves a memory no one can steal."

I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die." John 11:25,26

Eternal rest, grant unto her O Lord
and let perpetual light shine upon her.

May she rest in peace, Amen.

May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
Amen.

A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. Her husband has full confidence in her
and lacks nothing of value. She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life. ~Proverbs 31:10-12

To your entire family,
I am truly saddened to hear of Mrs. Joyce passing away. She was always such a beautiful lady, both inside and out. I have so many memories of her being there for all of us at St. Robert's. She will be forever be remembered with such admiration. I will keep her in my prayers as she transitions to her heavenly home. I know how difficult this time is for all of you and will pray for all. May you find comfort in the cherished memories that you have of your mom. God bless all of you. And may God hold Mrs. Joyce in the palms of his hands.
