Julio H. Papi passed away peacefully at his home in Metairie, LA on Monday, August 10, 2026 at the age of 104. Julio led a full and vibrant life, spending his career as an Operations Manager for Kerr Steamship Co. and Barber Steamship Co. Outside of his professional life, he found great joy in his hobbies, including fishing, tending to his roses, collecting stamps, attracting and caring for Purple Martins and solving crossword puzzles.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Arnaldo Papi and Melida Castillo Papi, as well as his sister, Juliette Calatayud.
Julio is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Glenda Urbina Papi; his loving daughter, Laura Berry (Steve); stepson, Rodolfo Fonseca (Mayela); and his brother, Armando Papi. He leaves behind a cherished legacy through his grandchildren: Eugenie Gass, Melissa Link (Ed), Allan Fonseca, Andrea Hernandez (Rafa), and Eric Fonseca; as well as his great-grandchildren: Alex Link, Brandon Link, Olivia Link, Milah Fonseca, Analiya Hernandez, and Melania Hernandez.
Julio will be always be remembered as a dedicated husband, amazing father and wonderful grandfather. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all of those whose lives he touched.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Visitation to be held at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W Virtue St, Chalmette, LA, on Saturday, August 15, 2026 from 9:00AM - 11:00AM. A Memorial Mass will begin at 11:00AM in the Chapel. Inurnment will follow in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
