Keith Anthony Gonzales Sr.

Keith Anthony Gonzales Sr. died in his home in Chalmette, LA on Sunday evening, July 19, 2026, after a long battle with lung cancer and emphysema. His son, Anthony John Gonzales, faithful to the end, witnessed his last breath at 10:56 PM. He was 65 years old. Keith was blessed to spend the last days of his life cared for by his steadfast wife, Lori Moreau Gonzales, and surrounded by his children, grandchildren, close relatives and friends. In those days, the home that Keith had lived in since 1988 and had remodeled and rebuilt after Hurricane Katrina, was filled with love, laughter, tears, and most importantly, an abiding and resting faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Keith was born in New Orleans, LA on December 17, 1960, to his parents, Melanie and Ernest Gonzales Jr. The third oldest of five (Ernest III, Brian, Keith, Kevin, and Michele), he lived in the lower Ninth Ward for several years prior to moving to St. Bernard Parish around 1970. He attended school at St. Robert Bellarmine and Chalmette High School. Upon finishing school, Keith married his sweetheart, Lori Moreau Gonzales, in 1981, and they quickly started building a family. In all, the couple had four children together, Keith Jr, AJ, Lori, and Ronnie. To support his family, Keith briefly worked at Folgers Coffee and American Tile before settling into a position as an installer of natural stone at Pieri Tile & Marble on Toulouse St. in Mid-City. He worked there for over 20 years and became a master craftsman. By his hands, many beautiful homes in New Orleans received meticulously built, luxury kitchen countertops, bathrooms, fireplace mantles, and floors. No job was unimportant to the man, and he prided himself on never cutting corners for any customer. He retired in 2019. He spent the last several years of his life at home with his wife and family, and he formed an extremely close relationship with his best friend and grandson, Evan Timothy Gonzales. The two did everything together: building puzzles, attending bible studies, League of Angel’s games, cutting grass, having lunch with friends, cleaning up at church, and sneaking away for late night ice cream runs. The pair loved the beach, and on annual family trips to Destin, FL, Keith and Evan would often disappear without telling anyone where they were going. Just two best buds on an adventure together.

Finally, Keith loved helping people. If a friend needed a hand on a project at home, Keith was there. If a loved one had an emergency at any time of day, Keith was there. He routinely and continually put others before himself in life. He was a faithful husband, father, son, brother, and Paw Paw. He will be missed.

Keith was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Gonzales Jr., older brother, Ernest Gonzales III, uncle, Ronnie Duplantis, and granddaughter, Rory Ann Gonzales. He is survived by his wife, Lori Ann Moreau Gonzales, mother, Melanie Duplantis Gonzales, brothers, Brian Sr. (Nonnie), and Kevin, and his sister, Michele Orr (Joe), his four children: Keith Jr. (Krystal), Anthony John (Jennifer), Lori (Joshua), and Ronnie (Mandy), and his 14 grandchildren, Evan, Elisha, Levi, Samuel, Esther, Luke, Evelyn, Siena, Alexander, Andrew, Bennett, Marlee, Riley, and Mia.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial gathering at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA, on Thursday, July 30, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A memorial service will begin at 11:00 a.m.
