Lazarus Gonzales, better known to all as "Satch" was born December 17, 1940, in St. Bernard, LA, and entered into eternal life on August 29, 2020, at the age of 79. He was a lifelong resident and commercial fisherman of Delacroix Island.
Satch will be fondly remembered for his love of the great outdoors, fishing, hunting, or just breathing the fresh air on his porch, telling stories and jokes to anyone who would listen. The sound of Fat's Domino would cause his foot to tap, and in days past he would, as they say, "cut a rug," doing the jitterbug. He will be sadly missed but never forgotten. His spirit of unwavering love for family will forever be felt in our hearts.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Gonzales, whom he loved and adored for 49 years. He was a loving father to his children, Larry (Carla), Elizabeth, Karen (Richie), Lynn (Billy), and daughter-in-law Sherie. He was a loving and doting grandfather to 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was the brother of Thomas (Joan), and is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
He is preceded in death by his son Tate, his grandson "Lil" Larry, his parents, Severo and Marie, his brothers Paul, Richard, Casimire, Louis, and Severo, and by his infant sister.
Family and friends are invited to share in a celebration of his life to be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2805 BAYOU ROAD, in St. Bernard, on Wednesday, September 2, 2020. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM, with Mass beginning at 1:00 PM. He will be laid to rest in St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery, directly across the street from the church.
