Leona Frances Berndt

Leona A. Berndt passed away peacefully on April 23, 2019, at the age of 92. She was married to the late Walter L. Berndt, Sr., for 64 years. She is survived by her three children, Bethann Pope (Edward), Walter L. Berndt, Jr., and Frank A. Berndt (Debbie). Loving grandmother of Eric Pope (Stephanie), Jennifer Giglio (Gasper), Jeremy Berndt (Bridget), Joshua Pope (Sandy), Walter J. Berndt (Kelly), Joei Dark, Alicia Berndt, and the late Christy Berndt. Great-grandmother of Gabrielle, Blake, Kaylee, Olivia, Gavin, Jeremy (Do), Emily, Edward, Nicholas, Brennan, William, Jacob, Chloe, Caleb, Ella, and Ollie. Great-great-grandmother of Luke. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Aymami, Sr. and Camille Stein Aymami, her step-mother, Gabrielle Aymami, and her siblings, Frank and Teddy Aymami.

Leona will always be remembered for her passion for reading and her love of Louisiana and Civil War history. She will be missed dearly by all of her family, who will never forget the wonderful stories she told over her 92 years.

Leona’s family would like to extend a special thanks to the entire staff of Avanti Memory Care and Hospice, of St. Tammany Parish Hospital.

A gathering of friends and family will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2019, from 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. VIRTUE STREET, in Chalmette, LA. A memorial service will be held in Leona's honor at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Leona’s memory, to the Salvation Army.
