

Lois Eulalie Melerine Johnson, surrounded by her family, passed away peacefully at her home in Madisonville on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at the age of 89. Devoted wife of Joe Edd Johnson, Sr. for 70 years. Loving mother of Sharon Ruiz (Brien), Dr. Joy Kenny, Dr. Joe E. Johnson, Jr. (Colleen), Kim Morales (Todd), and John Johnson (Renee). Daughter of the late Robert W. and Leona Hernandez Melerine. Sister of Leona Russell (Jack), and the late Thelma Serigne, Maria Elena LaGreco (Anthony), Roberta Melerine, and Robert Melerine, Jr. She adored her grandchildren, Brock Smith, Sean Kenny, Victoria Bagot (Mike), Christina Smith (Peyton), Matthew Johnson, Kaitlyn Morales, Kerilyn St. Pierre (Jacob), Hunter Morales, and Corey, Ryan, and Mark Johnson, and her great-grandchildren, Audrey, Michael IV, Harrison, and Anders Bagot, and Evangeline, Clarkson, and Casler Smith. Also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Lois was a descendant of the Canary Islanders, a native of St. Bernard Parish, and a resident of Meraux for 42 years before relocating to Madisonville after Hurricane Katrina. She was a respected Director of Nursing at Chalmette General for 10 years, having received her RN from Charity School of Nursing in 1974. She was also the Director of Nursing at several other facilities. She was passionate about helping others and passed that passion on to her children.
She loved her family gatherings for parties and holidays, Birthdays, Mardi Gras, Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at OUR LADY OF LOURDES CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2621 COLONIAL BLVD., in Violet, from 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM. A Mass will be held in honor of Lois at 12:00 PM. She will be laid to eternal rest in St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery.
