Marie Ann Asevado George passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at the age of 84. Her final days were spent surrounded by her family and friends. She was the cherished wife of 58 years to the late William H. “Tim” George. Loving mother of Michael J. George, John C. “Jay” George (Tiffany), Monica R. George Hadley (Barry) and the late Timothy T. George. Proud grandmother of Joshua (McKenzie) and Jeremy (Sons of Timothy), Ashlyn (Daughter of John), and Justin (Son of Monica.) Great-grandmother of Jack & Ryker (Sons of Ashlyn), Marley & EmmieLou (Daughters of Joshua), Lucas (Son of Joshua) and soon to be born Grace (daughter of Jeremy). She is also fondly remembered by many cousins, relatives and dear friends.
Born in New Orleans, Marie was a longtime resident of St. Bernard Parish where she was deeply committed to her community and church. She attended grammar school at the original Sebastian Roy School in Yscloskey and graduated in 1959 from St. Bernard High School, where she met her future husband, Tim.
She was an active member of the St. Bernard Business and Professional Women’s Club, joining in 1980. She served as Vice President in 1987 and President in 1989. In recognition of her leadership and dedication, she was honored with the Woman of the Year Award in 1992 and the Model Working Women Award in 1997. Marie and Tim graciously hosted many picnics at their home celebrating the end of BPW National Business Week, gatherings remembered fondly for their warmth and hospitality.
In 1996, she became treasurer of the St. Bernard Alliance for Good Government, where her accounting expertise and integrity were invaluable. She was a devoted parishioner of St. Bernard Catholic Church. She faithfully served as a longtime lector, provided recipes for Seder Meals, donated desserts for Friday Lenten dinners, opened her home to visiting mission priests and handled funds for numerous church fundraising efforts. In recognition of their dedicated service to the church, Marie and Tim were recipients of the Order of St. Louis IX Medallion from the Archdiocese of New Orleans.
She was also an eager part of local tradition, riding for many years in the Krewe of Shangri-La Mardi Gras parades in Chalmette, celebrating life with the same joy she brought to everything she did.
In the 1960s, Marie and Tim won several dance contests on the locally aired The John Pela Show. Dancing remained her greatest passion throughout her life. She built an extensive collection of 45's and album records dating back to the 1950's and loved listening to music. She also enjoyed hosting gatherings with her husband, traveling, collecting recipes to try, looking through family photos and watching classic films on Turner Classic Movies.
Before applying for her first job ever, the job required previous training or prior experience. Having neither, she took some courses in bookkeeping and accounting, as well as a training course on how to use a tabulating machine, which was used for accounting.
Throughout the years, it became clear to everyone that her commitment in keeping everything documented and organized was second to none. There’s no doubt that this commitment played a large role in the amount of success she achieved.
She was known for her sharp mind and keen awareness — so much so that family and close friends affectionately nicknamed her “The Hawk.” She noticed everything and missed nothing.
Above all else, Marie deeply cherished Tim, who was the love of her life, along with her family, who meant everything to her. She valued her close friendships and quietly supported many charitable causes throughout her life.
Marie will be remembered for her intelligence, faith, generosity, bright spirit and nurturing love for those closest to her. She leaves behind a community strengthened by her service and a family forever grateful for her example.
Rest in peace, our dear Marie. We will honor you by living as you did — faithfully, generously and always showing love to those around us.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 2805 Bayou Rd., St. Bernard, LA on Saturday, February 21st from 10:00AM – 12:00PM, followed by a Funeral Mass in Marie’s memory beginning at 12:00PM. She will be laid to eternal rest in St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery.
