Marilyn Jeanne Cieutat Gallardo passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, June 21, 2025 less than a month shy of her 92nd birthday. She was the cherished wife of the late Frank “Buddy” Gallardo. Loving mother of Cindy G. Meyer (the late Julin), Christopher Gallardo (Keri) and the late Frank Gallardo Jr. Proud grandmother of Frank Gallardo III, Nicole G. Deano (Travis), Alison M. Taylor (Nick), C.J. Gallardo, Kelli G. Alvarez (Juan) and Camden Gallardo. Great grandmother of Emily Deano, Talia Deano, Gavin Deano and Kaz Alvarez.
She was her family's version of a true "southern belle". She was proud to be from St. Bernard Parish, growing up in Arabi, and raising her family on Palmetto St. in the heart of Chalmette, LA. After spending a few years in Abita Springs post Katrina, she made her way back to Arabi to be closer to her family. Marilyn lived to love, and those fortunate enough to know her could attest to her kindness and warmth. The forefront of that love was her family. Her family came first and she went above and beyond to make sure they felt her love and presence. She went to countless school events, ball games, dance recitals, and any event to cheer on her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved spending holidays with family and celebrating birthdays. While she may have been small in appearance, she was built on strength and fortitude. A 2x breast cancer survivor, she overcame many obstacles and heartbreaks with resilience and grace. Marilyn was not only kind, but smart with a curious thirst for knowledge. She was an avid reader of the daily newspaper periodicals, crossword puzzles, and books (especially nonfiction). She loved card games, cats, babies, New Orleans Saints, window-shopping, hosting Christmas Eve, and having any reason to gather her family together. She was a woman of beauty, humor, strength, understanding, knowledge, passion, kindness, selflessness, and heart. She will be missed immensely.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Friday, June 27, 2025 from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM. A Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 AM. She will be laid to rest in St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery, St. Bernard, LA. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in memory of Marilyn to the American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org.
