Marlene Savarese Pappas passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at the age of 90. She was the cherished wife of the late Michel Pappas Jr. Loving mother of Pamela Mouton (Pat), Lisa Perrodin (the late E.J.) and the late Michael Pappas (Laurie). Daughter of the late Ciro Anthony Savarese and Lenora Norton Savarese. Sister of Vincent Savarese, Mary Jane Hedrick and the late Cyril Savarese and Joseph Savarese. Proud grandmother of Michelle Robin, Stephanie Herbert (Angie) and Devin Perrodin. Great grandmother of Joseph Robin, Allie Herbert, Timothy Trimble, Shay Herbert, Taylor Rozar and the late Johnathan Trimble.
Marlene met the love of her life, Mike at Francis T. Nicholls High School and was married for 53 years before his death in August 2006. Marlene and Mike were inseparable. They bowled on mixed couples leagues at night, while Marlene bowled several days a week with the ladies. Marlene and Mike had a passion for racehorses, where they spent weekends betting the ponies. In 1971 they purchased their 1st racehorse in a yearling sale in Kentucky. Their horse, Primitive Weapon was the horse that started their passion. They eventually purchased property in Folsom, LA where they operated a breeding farm. Marlene later trained her own horses at Jefferson Downs and The Fair Grounds in New Orleans. Anyone who came down her shed row could expect a pot of fresh coffee and hot donuts. It was no wonder that her daughters - Pam would marry a racehorse trainer, while Lisa married a jockey. Marlene and Mike also loved gambling and the casinos, where you could always find Mike at the crap table and Marlene at her favorite slot machine. They enjoyed traveling and made frequent trips to Las Vegas.
Marlene loved to fish & crab and plan family deep sea fishing trips. They owned a camp on Rats Nest Road in Slidell, where she would plan family reunions and the grandchildren and friends could boat and jet ski.
Marlene never met a stranger! She had a kind and generous heart and was loved by all who knew her!
May Marlene's spirit continue to guide us, and may her memory be a blessing unto us forevermore.
