

Mary Hingle Willhoft, 87, proud owner of Port Ship Service, Inc. passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, May 23, 2021. She was the beloved wife of the late Raymond George Willhoft Sr. Loving mother of Sheri Willhoft Fernandez, Terry Willhoft Waldo (Robert), Raymond Willhoft Jr. (Louise) and Rod Willhoft (Leslie). Daughter of the late Heard E. Hingle and Clothilde St. Germain Hingle. Stepdaughter of the late Euphamie Miller Hingle. Sister of the late Clothilde H. Abney, Ronald J. Hingle and Warren Hingle. Proud grandmother of Raymond Willhoft III, Joseph Difatta III (Francesca), Ryan Willhoft (Angela), Rae Frigola (Truit), Jeffrey Difatta, Courtney Willhoft (Seth), Caitlin Velez (Ryan) and the late Rod Willhoft II. She is also survived and fondly remembered by 8 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and especially Christopher Frigola and Diane McLaughlin.
Born in New Orleans, she made her home in St. Bernard Parish, before relocating to Slidell, Louisiana with her family in 2006 where she became a parishioner of St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church.
A graduate of Francis T. Nicholls High School in New Orleans, Mary studied nursing at Hotel Dieu before beginning the journey of a lifetime with the love of her life, Raymond Willhoft, Sr. in 1953. Together, they built a thriving business, a wonderful family, and a beautiful life. She was a member of the Krewe of Mid-City and reigned as queen of the krewe in 1977.
Mrs. Willhoft had an intense love of travelling, especially cruising with her children and grandchildren. She and her adoring husband enjoyed visiting beautiful and exciting locations all over the world.
Mausie, as she was affectionately known, was a devoted wife, an adoring mother, and a doting grandmother. She was passionate about spending quality time with her family, playing cards, or lounging around the pool either at her home or her special place in the country.
Her boisterous laughter will be greatly missed, along with her gentle, giving spirit. She will be remembered by those blessed to have known her as the model of a life extremely well lived. Mary Hingle Willhoft was known by many but loved by all.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will begin at 12:00 PM. She will be laid to rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
