Mettie Brown Herzog, age 85, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories and the love of her family and friends. She was born in Anadarko, Oklahoma, and moved to Louisiana as a teenager. In the mid-1960s, she made St. Bernard Parish her home, where she lived and raised her family until 2005. She was a loving mother to three daughters, one of whom preceded her in death in 2005. She was also a devoted grandmother to seven grandchildren, who brought great joy and love into her life.
Mettie will be remembered for her simple pleasures and the things that made her happiest. She loved watching old Western television shows and movies, listening to country and gospel music, and spending time in her garden. She also enjoyed playing cards with her friends, sharing laughter, conversation, and good times with those around her. Above all, Mettie will be remembered for the love she gave to her family and the memories she created throughout her 85 years of life. Her kindness, strength, and presence will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
She leaves behind her two daughters, Jannie M. Brown and Denise F. Matherne (Jeffrey); her seven grandchildren, Melinda Parrott, Vicki Johnson, Elizabeth Boyd, Jared Matherne, Evan Matherne, Melanie Luccia and Jeffrey Luccia; her 8 great-grandchildren, N'Kosi Boyd, Akasha Boyd, Makayla Zelaya, Jorge Hernandez Jr., Angelica Hernandez, Jasmine Boyd, Sylvia Johnson and John Johnson; her 2 great-great grandchildren, Ezra Spencer and Neo Spencer and many others whose lives she touched. She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin C. Brown and Thursie D. Brown; her daughter, Diana F. Luccia; her siblings, Bettie B. Thurston and Clinton S. Brown.
Though she is no longer with us, her memory will live on through her family, the stories they share, and the love she gave so freely. Rest peacefully, Mom. You will be deeply missed and forever loved.
