Richard Taurus Boyington, 53, of Chalmette, Louisiana, passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2026. He will be remembered as a charming, generous, and genuinely one-of-a kind man who brought laughter wherever he went. With his light hearted personality and welcoming nature, Richard never met a stranger. He loved being around people, making new friends, and sharing life’s moments with those he held dear. He never needed much of a reason to laugh or make someone else laugh.
Richard proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps as a Motor Vehicle Operator. His last duty assignment was in Okinawa, Japan. Being a Marine was a tremendous source of pride for Richard, and his service remained an important part of his identity throughout his life. He carried that pride with him long after his time in the Corps, and his dedication to serving his country was something he cherished.
Following his military service, Richard continued a career built around hard work and mechanical skill as a diesel mechanic. After many years with Associated Terminals, he accepted an opportunity with the Port of New Orleans, where he proudly represented and served his fellow union members on the Finance Committee for the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA), Local 2036.
Richard enjoyed staying active and took great pride in fitness and taking care of himself. He loved his music, dancing, and spending time with the people who made life special. He also had a special love for his dogs, Diesel, Bella, and Beau, who were his beloved furry companions. And then, of course, there were his New Orleans Saints. Richard was more than a fan; he was a devoted, all-in Saints supporter whose love for his team was practically legendary. Whether talking football, enjoying his music, or simply being surrounded by good company, Richard knew how to enjoy the things he loved. While all of these things made Richard the person that he was, there was nothing that he loved more than his children.
Richard is survived by his daughters, Taylor Treadaway (Ethan) and Lillian Boyington; his grandchildren, Kai and Kane; his siblings, Starnell Roig (Darren), Treasure Schwab, Robert Greer (Kristin), Marcey Sweat (Joey), and Riki Landry (Wayne); and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Starnell Boyington, and his father, Larry Pascual.
Richard’s life was filled with hard work, service, friendship, and plenty of laughter. Though his passing leaves a tremendous void in the lives of those who loved him, the stories, memories, and laughter he shared will continue to bring people together. He will be deeply missed and forever loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held on Friday, November 6, 2026 from 10:00AM - 1:00PM at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA 70043. A Funeral Service will begin at 1:00PM. He will be laid to rest with military honors in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
