

Robert Henry Bailey passed away on June 25, 2014 at the age of 90. A native of New Orleans and a resident of Violet, LA for the last 44 years. Beloved husband of the late Florence Giavotella Bailey. He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry James Benson Bailey and Lillian Russel; his brothers, Joseph James Bailey, Rogers Jachin Bailey (Ann), and August Vincent Bailey Sr. (Joyce). He is survived by his five children; Robert Bailey, Patricia Netherland (Doug), Glenn Bailey, Nora Jones (Kerry), and James Bailey (Wendy); Six grandchildren, Jamie Gisevius, Shelly Gisevius, Michelle Bailey, Stephanie Bayard, Kristian Nicosia, and Katie Bailey, along with eight great-grandchildren.
Robert Henry Bailey worked for 21 years as a U.S. Merchant Marine. He served in the Pacific during WWII. He retired in 1963 and began a career as a welder at Kaiser Aluminum in Chalmette. He retired from Kaiser when the plant closed down in the 1980’s and began a career as a Thoroughbred race horse trainer. Horses he trained raced and won at the N.O. Fairgrounds, Jefferson Downs, Evangeline Downs, and Delta Downs.
