On Saturday, October 5, 2019, Rudolph, also known as Rudy, Daddy, Pawpaw, Buddy, and Uncle Buddy, entered God’s Kingdom to celebrate his wedding anniversary with his beloved wife Doris, who was already waiting for him. He was aged 90 years.
During his life, he had four children, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Doris Reggio Baker, their daughter, Raynette Baker, and one grandchild, Kyle Keeling. He is survived by his daughters, Dolores Landry (Glenn), Cynthia Keeling (the late Brian), and son, Rudolph Baker (Sheila). Also survived by his grandchildren, Brad Landry, Michael Mills (Grace), Holly Landry, Krista Mannion (Michael), Beau Landry (Erica), and nine great-grandchildren.
Born in New Orleans, he is the son of the late Rudolph Baker, Jr. and the late Isabelle Soulant. He is the brother of the late Dolores Baker, Thomas Baker, Alfred Baker, and surviving siblings, Joyce Paretti, John Baker, and Henry Baker. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Beverly Landry, and by many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
Rudy joined the US Navy at age 17. He served as Chief Hospital Corpsman during his 24 years of service, where he fought in the Korean War and Vietnam War. Upon Retiring from the Navy, he and his family settled in St. Bernard Parish. He worked and retired from Murphy Oil Refinery.
Buddy was a member and former Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Rommel Council. He was an active parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, of Violet, Louisiana.
His family would like to thank all of the staff at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Home where he resided and was cared for, for the last 6 years.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue Street, in Chalmette, LA, on Thursday, October 10, 2019, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A mass will be held in his memory at 11:00 AM. He will be laid to rest in St. Vincent dePaul Cemetery.
