

Salvador “Sal” Gallo of Chalmette, Louisiana, peacefully passed away on Friday, April 8, 2022 at the age of 92. Sal was born in New Orleans to John Gallo and Rose Biaggne Gallo on June 30, 1929. He was a member of Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Baton Rouge where he served as an usher for many years.
Prior to Sal and his wife Ann moving to Baton Rouge to be near their grandchildren, Sal was a member of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church in Chalmette where he also served as an usher. Sal was a member of the Most Blessed Sacrament Men’s Club and the Knights of Columbus. He volunteered at Woman’s Hospital in Baton Rouge for many years. He also served in the Army National Guard. Sal was an avid fisherman and in his earlier days, enjoyed hunting while working on the family farm. He enjoyed listening and dancing to music, tending his vegetable garden, and spending time with his family.
Sal is survived by his son, Joseph “Joe” Sr., Joe’s wife Margaret, two grandsons, Joseph “Joey” Gallo, Jr. and his wife Mindy, Jared G. Gallo and his wife Amelia, and five great-grandchildren who loved and adored their "PawPaw," Alexis, Harper, Skylar, Rose, and John Gallo. Sal is also survived by his brother, Johnny Gallo and sister, Rosalie Border, as well as several nieces and nephews. Sal is preceded in death by his wife, the late Anna “Ann” Luquet Gallo, his sister, the late Corinne Usner, and his parents, the late John and Rose Gallo. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Garden View Assisted Living, for their wonderful care and dedication to Sal.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Thursday, April 21, 2022, at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. VIRTUE STREET, in Chalmette, from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM. A funeral mass will be held in Sal’s memory at 11:00 AM, officiated by Fr. Wayne Paysse. Sal will be laid to rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, donations to the Forward in Faith Building Campaign at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Baton Rouge, or Masses are appreciated.
