Socorro “Cora” Juarez Navarette Hernandez, age 85, passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2016. She was a native of Sierra Blanca, Texas, and a resident of Violet since 1965. Following Hurricane Katrina, she relocated to Lafayette for a few years. Mrs. Hernandez was the wife of Mauricio Hernandez, Jr. for 50 years; daughter of Benjamin and Pilar Navarette; mother of James Landry, Sr. and Ginger Mays (wife of Ronald Mays, Sr.); grandmother of James Landry II (husband of Holly), Kimberly Landry, Lucas Landry, and Ronald Mays, Jr. (finace of Evelyn Simmons); great-grandfather of Jace, Zyon and Zen Landry; sister of Paula Perez, Andrea Colmenero (wife of Manuel), Antonia Negrette, and Delia Gerard. She is also survived by numerous other family members and friends. Mrs. Hernandez was a parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Violet. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue Street, Chalmette, Louisiana, on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 from 9:00 am until 11:00 am. A Rosary and prayers of remembrance will begin at 11:00 am. Mrs. Hernandez will be laid to rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
