Theresa Ann Johnson Doty passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 17, 2026 at the age of 71. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that she had touched in some way throughout her very memorable life.
She was the cherished wife of the late Frank Doty Sr. and longtime companion of the late Charles Bradbury. Daughter of the late George Johnson and Nita Hebert Johnson. Loving mother of Gina Banks (Dwayne Banks), Jody Doty (Cristy Doty), Brandi Doty and the late Frank Doty Jr. (Delia Doty). Sister of George Johnson, Carol Saltalmachia and the late Barbara Johnson. Proud grandmother of Jordan Mumphrey, Alexis Banks, Dwayne Banks Jr., Braylin Banks, Branden Banks, Adyson Doty and Ryley Doty. Great grandmother of Lucas Mumphrey. She is also survived and fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Theresa was born in New Orleans, LA and was a longtime resident of St. Bernard Parish where she made her home. She dedicated many years of compassionate service as a Certified Nursing Assistant, caring for others through her kindness and strength.
She found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved fishing and often said with a smile, “You need to talk to the fish to catch them.” She cherished time spent with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren, and enjoyed visiting the country to spend time with her cousins. Known for her sweet tooth, the only thing that surpassed her love for a good piece of birthday cake and ice cream was the love she had for her grandchildren.
She also had a special love for her animals, especially her dog, Sassy. The two were inseparable and could often be found enjoying car rides together.
Theresa was a devoted single mother for many years, raising her children with unconditional love and resilience after the passing of their father at the young age of 34. Affectionately known as “Madea,” she had a gift for making people laugh and bringing joy to those around her.
Rest in peace, mom. Your love, your lessons, your laughter and your deep impact on our lives will live eternally in our hearts.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Saturday, March 21st from 11:00AM – 1:00PM, followed by a funeral service in her memory beginning at 11:00PM.
