Ursula Veronica Gilchrist

She is preceded in death by her husband, Andrew “ACE” Gilchrist, Sr., her parents, Berwick and Theresa Detiveaux Olivier, her sisters Emelda Haydel and Laudist Sass. She is survived by and will be sadly missed by her children, Debbie Bentley, Andrew Gilchrist, Jr., Brenda Chautin (Ray), Kerry Gilchrist (Mina), Kevin Gilchrist (Sylinda), Cynthia Gilchrist (Terry), Donna Voros (Janos), Dwayne Gilchrist (Stephanie) and Bryan Gilchrist (Nancy); Grandmother of Tammy, Maria, Kane, Joshua, Allaina, Michael, Breanna, Britney, Jazmine, Cheyenne, Veronica, Blade and 9 great-grandchildren; her sisters and brother Gloria Cooper, Loris Dupre, Berwick “Sam” Olivier (Regina), Barbara “Bobbie” Steib (Mark) and Vivian Rodrigue (Mack), and many nieces and nephews. Ursula was a resident of Harvey, Louisiana and a former resident of Meraux, Louisiana.

After her husband’s death in 1988, she enjoyed working at Jake’s Palace in Chalmette, where she met many new friends. She also served as a secretary for the Catechism Program at St. Maurice Church in New Orleans for many years. Our Lady of Guadalupe was an inspiration to Ursula. Faith, Family and Love of Our Lord, Jesus Christ was how she lived her life.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Saturday, March 12, 2016 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will begin at 1:00 pm in the Chapel. Ursula will be laid to rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
