Veda Sartalamacchia

Veda Sartalamacchia passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at the age of 87. She was the beloved daughter of the late Olive Nicholas Ancar and Elsie Blazio; devoted wife of the late Charles Sartalamacchia; loving mother of Emile (Sherrie) Sartalamacchia and Ray (Sue) Sartalamacchia; cherished grandmother of Steven, Michelle, and Stephanie; and proud great-grandmother of Olivia.

Veda was also the dear sister of the late Joyce Ancar, Gilbert Ancar, and Dudley Ancar.

Born in Triumph, Louisiana, Veda moved to the French Quarter as a young child, a place she always held close to her heart. In 1956, she married Charles Sartalamacchia, beginning a loving partnership and family life that would span many decades.

From September 1974 until August 2005, Veda worked as a lingerie specialist for D.H. Holmes Department Store, later Dillard’s. Her years there ended when Hurricane Katrina forever changed the city she loved.

In 2007, Veda moved to Slidell, Louisiana, to live with her son Emile and daughter-in-law Sherrie. In September 2020, she relocated to Jacksonville, Florida, to live with her son Ray and daughter-in-law Sue. Even after moving away, Veda often returned to Louisiana between 2021 and 2024 to spend time with family and lifelong friends.

In 2025, Veda became a resident of Almost Home Nursing Facility in Jacksonville, Florida, where she made many dear friends, including Marian and her roommate Pearl.

Veda enjoyed life’s simple pleasures such as visiting with family and friends, reading romance novels, and watching western television shows. She was a faithful Catholic who attended church regularly until 2025 and lived her life with grace, compassion, and unwavering faith.

Those who knew Veda will always remember her beautiful smile, gentle spirit, and the love she gave so freely. Her greatest pride and joy were her two sons, Emile and Ray, her grandchildren Steven, Michelle, and Stephanie, and her precious great-granddaughter Olivia.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives she touched.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Thursday, June 4, 2026, from 9:00AM – 11:00AM. A funeral mass in Veda’s honor will follow at 11:00 AM. She will be laid to eternal rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens
